About Honorable Ojetta Rogeriee Thompson

In 2009, President Barack Obama nominated Ojetta Rogeriee Thompson to a seat on the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, where she has served since confirmation in 2010. Before that, Thompson was an associate justice on the Rhode Island State Superior Court and an associate judge with the Rhode Island District Court.

She entered the judiciary in 1988 after a career as a lawyer both in private practice, as a senior partner with Thompson & Thompson and an associate at McKinnon and Fortunato, and in public service, as an assistant city solicitor for the City of Providence and a senior staff attorney for Rhode Island Legal Services Inc.

Thompson was an English concentrator, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1973. She was elected to the Board of Fellows in 2013 and served on the Board of Trustees from 1999 to 2005. She is a member of Brown’s Civic Leadership Council and the Fund for the Education of the Children of Providence.

In addition to her service to Brown, Thompson is a Board of Trustee member for College Unbound. She is also a member of the First Circuit Judicial Council and the Judicial Conference of the United States Committee on Information Technology and Budget Subcommittee. Thompson has previously served on the Board of Trustees for the YMCA of Greater Providence and the Board of Directors for the Rhode Island College Crusade for Higher Education.

She earned her law degree from Boston University in 1976.
